Clubroom this Wednesday

To introduce a bit of variety into the life of the Eagle, Chris Baldwin is bringing along his powertap and turbo trainer this wednesday at our next clubroom evening. If you bring your own bike along you can slot in the powertap, hook it up on the turbo trainer then feel what it slike to put out 300, 400, 500 watts.  Chris will let you know how many watts you need to put out to PB, so it could be a very informative session for you all.

Eagle Road Club at Hog Hill this Sunday

Following the success of the Hog Hill training evenings last year, we thought we would have a training morning at the circuit on Sunday 28 February from 9am until around midday. The main focus will be practicing through and off riding in groups of similar ability. We can also do some sprint training as part of the morning(hopefully Pinarelloman will be able to pass on some tips). We will finish off the morning with one or two short handicap races to put the training into action.

You can invite friends along too who may be interested in joining the club.

Some ideas for the morning:

• group warm up twin pace line. We will then send groups of 4 off the front to ride as a break for say 3 laps (lower circuit).
• riding as a break (groups of 4 to 6). Ride hard for say 5 laps as a group (so take long turns if you're stronger). The last lap willl be a sprint for the line (so can get cagey). The laps will be on the lower circuit, but the fast group will sprint for the line by going up the hill.
• group riding on the full circuit - attempt to keep thing togther in groups on the full circuit.
• cornering practice (top circuit)
• full circuit 4 lap TT - simulate the effort required for a solo break
• a series of 5 - 10 lap scratch races for different level groups (lower circuit + full circuit for fast group.

Not too sure whether the weather will be kind to us - but the nice thing about Hog Hill is that you can shelter in the cafe if it is too wet, and you can always take a hot shower afterwards.

I thought I should spell out some of the evvnts the Eagle Road Club has lined up over the coming weeks.

Clubroom

On Weds 17th Feb we have a clubroom night organised.  It starts at 8:00 pm and we have found a hall in Valley Hill, Loughton. It is important for new members to have a clubroom, so they can meet us, find out what we are like and maybe organise some rides and races.  So please make an effort to come along. If you have ordered a handbook this will be a good place to pick it up. Here is a map of the address.

Training Weekend

On the weekend of the 20th Feb we are trying to organise a training weekend at the clubhouse.  Think of it as a cheap holiday, that will do you some good.  Mr Foy is organising things so expect to be encouraged to take part. We will depart on the Sat at 9:00 am for an approx 60 mile group ride. It will be a good steady pace.

Bring some food and a change of clothes, you can shower at the clubhouse, and stay overnight if you wish by getting in touch with Tony or Dave Clarke.

On the Sunday we will do a similar 60 mile ride, again a 9:00 am start.  This will top up your endurance base ready for the new season.  Lets hope for some good weather.

Hog Hill Ride

The following weekend on the Sunday 28th we are going to descend on Hog Hill again for a clubrun with a little difference. Phil Hersey will be master of ceremonies and I expect we will have a very good turnout.

If you are thinking of joining the Eagle RC, or just thinking about becoming involved in competitive cycling then this would be an excellent event to come and try. Hog hill is quite a challenging circuit, but with no traffic and the circuit being relatively short at 2km, the event will be great for newcomers to experience the thrill of group rides.

Annual Dinner and Dance

The Eagle Road Club held its annual awards dinner on Saturday 30th January. Club members celebrated their achievements in road races and time trials during 2009 including Chris Baldwin winning the Club Championship for the second year, and winning the National 100 mile time trial championship in the 50+ age group.  Here is Chris receiving his award from our President Alan McArdle and his good lady Elaine.

 
Other notable highlights were Phil Hersey winning the Blackpool Nocturne Race in front of a packed Golden Mile crowd, which went some way to ensure Phil won the Eagle Road Club’s first Road Race Championship.  Our road race championships are awarded to the rider gaining the most BC points over the year.

 Liz Chittenden with several strong performances throughout the year won the Ladies Road Race Championship, another new trophy for our members to compete in.

  In the junior ranks Matt Farrow and Nell Baldwin (both under 8) had fantastic seasons winning races and scoring podium positions at the National Championships against older children.

 After the evening’s formalities the dancing began with some rather nifty footwork.  Here’s looking forward to the 2010 season.

The next social event in the diary is our evening clubroom on Weds the 6th Jan, for an 8:00 pm start  This is where we meet up over a cup of tea to organise all things cycling and all things Eagle.  Dave Youell has found us a room in Loughton - the  location is on the juction of Roding Road and Valley Hill.

Hope to see you there, as we all need a bit of encouragement to keep cycling over the winter don't we?

Sunday 3rd Jan Clubrun from the Castle

Looks like there will be a few Eagles out this Sunday meeting at the Castle for a 9:00 am start.

Check with Damian if you fancy going along. Especially with the weather the way it is.

Monday Clubrun

A few of us are going out for a clubrun on Monday 28th, meeting at the clubhouse at 9-00 am. Come along if you want a bit of fresh air to get over Christmas.

Clubroom

Those that have been in the club for a few years will remember the Tuesday night clubroom.  This was a place to come and socialise with your clubmates over a cup of tea and a biscuit - maybe even have a game of table tennis.

Well we are going to re-instate them with a slight twist. Rather than weekly, we are going to gather on a monthly basis,  as we think this reflects what we all want from the club.  The new location is in Loughton on the juction of Roding Road and Valley Hill.

The first evening will be Weds the 6th Jan and we will run them until the evening racing starts then take a view on whether to continue them over the Summer.

Yes Ladies & Gentlemen we are celebrating our 86th Dinner & Dance, so what better way than to come along & join in the party!!!!!!!!!
The celebration begins at 17.45 Hrs when the bar opens in the banqueting suite for pre dinner drinks (not included in your ticket).
My right hand man Mick the Chip O’Malley will be asking you to take your seats at 6.30 for dinner, as I compare your evening and welcome our guests with a three course meal to follow.
This year’s taste bud teaser will be Norwegian Prawn Cocktail, followed by Entrecote Borderlaise (Cannelloni for our veggies), accompanied by Sauté potatoes and seasonal mixed Veg, finishing with a choice of Lemon Tarte with Cornish Clotted Cream or Fruits of the Forest Cheesecake, Tea or Coffee & after dinner Mints, when the raffle tickets will go on sale!!! And I can confirm already that some friends & members have donated some lovely prizes!!
Having toasted Her Majesty the Queen, I will invite our guest & response speaker to the floor!!!!
And, after the speakers, a Cabaret?? Well there maybe a little something tucked up my sleeve but the only way to find out is to come along and enjoy the evening!!
So having been entertained, the 2009 awards will be presented by the Presidents lady, and President himself.
With the formal part of the evening over, we will move a few tables & chairs & I will have pleasure in relaxing a little & passing you over to Mick & Pete our DJ’s for the evening Chip ‘n’ Spin for the disco. As with any of our dinners it won’t take Chip ‘n’ Spin long before they have all you “Strictly Come Dancing” wanna bees on the floor gigging around & having a good time till around Midnight finishing with a half hour to wind down and say farewell to your friends until the next dinner!!
This is our Gala Night & a chance for the ladies to wear their Ball Gowns & the gents Dinner Suits, so the Attire is smart casual please!
Adult tickets have been frozen again at £30 for the 6th Year running, but we have had to increase child tickets to £20 for the under 16’s on the day of the event.
I can accommodate 120 guests!!!!!!!! Let’s make it a BIG PARTY to remember by you bringing your friends & family.

Formal invitations have been posted to you, which you should have received by the time you read this advert. I would be grate full if you will send back your reservation slip ASAP. I would also be even more grate full of the guests that decide not to come & enjoy the evening to return your No Thanks reservation slips, which will save me the task of having to chase you down nearer the time only for you to say no thanks!!
This evening is a night to be enjoyed by all, & with this in mind I will not be accepting any ticket monies on the evening!!
Payment should be made by no later than Saturday 16th January 2010 (two weeks prior to the event), either by Cheque payable to Eagle Road Club, or cash to me in person (but as I said previously not on the evening).
