Poor Phil puntured mising out on a very good day on a very good course. Damien returned with a 54.39 and Chris finished with a 52.59 for yet another pb.
The points have now been calculated and our congratulations not only go to Chris for winning this year's evening 10 competition, but to all the riders that took part to make each race an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
A special thank you to the timekeeper and helpers, as without their support these events would not be possible.

These are the standings in our evening 10 competition. Rider's eight best qualifying rides from ten events count towards the overall competition - not six events as previously stated.
Rnd 1 was run over a shortened course.
We are now in a position to take orders for our new club clothing. Just to let you all know, we changed suppliers this year to get us more flexibility placing orders as and when our members need kit. This benefits us all because we can buy clothing when we need it, it also means the club doesn't have to hold large volumes of stock.
Now that the designs have been approved we can begin the whole process. Below is what we will be offering at present, the range may be expended to cover other items later.
For racing:
For training:
Eagle caps are about the only thing we won't be doing, but ther than that pretty much anything is possible. So do get in touch with Damien for club clothing. He will advise on sizing and costs.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 28th July, is our last evening 10 of the season. We have had a good representation of riders this year and hopefully tomorrow will be a fitting finale to the competition. We will be riding the Lambourne End course, start is at 8:00 pm.
Why not come down and give it a go and thank Peter B for all his work over the summer?
Dave Farrow is dominating the vets racing at Hog Hill this year. He is leading the Thursday night series by a country mile, won last Sunday in a lone break, won last night from a break of two, and is not too sluggish in a bunch sprint as the picture below shows.
Vets racing is open to riders over 40 years of age, and is the ideal format for anyone trying to get back into racing from a layoff. You can start with the over 60's, then as you progress join the over 50's then when you are fully into the swing of thiings race with you own age group. The racing is a very good standard, good vets in our own region are easily 2nd cat standard. Riders taking part tend to be experienced road racers so the racing is very safe and it is relatively cheap as well - half the price of a BC event. To find out more visit the LVRC page.
Message from Phil Hersey
As noted in the recent edition of Way of an Eagle, the club is putting on an Eagle night at Hog Hill on Monday 3 August 2009 from 5.30 to 9.00pm – the Monday after the final evening 10. We have hired the south circuit for a series of short events aimed at all levels in the club – it is the 1.1km flat circuit. For those who haven’t been to the circuit, it is a fabulous facility. Circuit details are: http://www.redbridgecyclingcentre.co.uk/ and the address is Redbridge Cycling Centre, Forest Road, Hainault, Essex, IG6 3HP.
For the event, the club will be split into blues and golds teams and the teams will be as evenly matched as possible.
5.30 - 6.30 – 3 or 4 Children's events organised by Chris Baldwin
6.30 - 7.00 - Warm-up and through and off practice
7.00 – 8.30 – adult’s events – mix of short time trials and bunch riding/races, grouped by ability.
The results from all events go towards the final team result.
The cost for the evening will be £4 for adults to cover hire charges (kids – free).
Please email phersey@crai.com to let him know whether you would like to attend, help out or have any questions about the evening.
Please can you also spread the word to make sure that members that aren’t on the internet or email hear about this event and are encouraged to be there.
Thanks
Phil
There are lot's of cycling events going on at the moment that I thought I should draw to your attention. I have concentrated on events that are appropriate for most people and beginners especially. You can find more details under the "whats on section" of this web site - click on the events in the diary to see more details.
Our evening 10 series moves across to the Lambourne End course tonight, start is at 8.00 pm as usual. It is a very sporting course, great fun, so why not come down and give it a go? Although it does require some navigational skills, so if you are new to the course and are not in possession of a Garmin, make sure you talk to one of the experienced hands to get the route in your head.
Our organisers require a little help for the last two remaining 10's - that's next week, just putting out a couple of warning signs. If you can help please get in touch.
Well done to Graham who has just published his 2nd edition of the club magazine. Expect it soon, and if it fails to turn up, do get in touch so we can check your contact details?
Our current club champon Chris Baldwin took part in the National 100 today, and produced a fine ride of 3:55:11 to win his age group. See the full results by clicking here.
Just in is this report from the man himself "Quite a weekend! First we were off to
Oxfordshire for the Oakley RR on Saturday where Liz finished 2nd for
the BC East Team and 18th overall. A village fete followed and then we
all headed north towards the Yorkshire dales, arriving about 8 pm.
Quick bite, then bed and a 7:51 start.
A lot of the chatter
about the race was of the was it or was it not a fast course. Weather
was a perfect overcast with very little rain, and just the smallest
breeze. 65 miles on dual carriageway (2 loops of 32ish) and 35 on the
lanes (two loops of 16ish). Those Evening 10s we've been doing paid off
big time as I couldn't wait to get in the lanes and get my butt off the
saddle on a couple of the short sharp climbs. Pacing went well, approx
numbers: 25 - 56:00, 50 - 1:53, 75 - 2:54 and in with 3:55:11.
I
was passed by 3 riders on the day, and quite proud to have been on the
same course with them - Last years winner Kevin Dawson, this year's
winner Michael Hutchinson and Philip Graves, 3rd this year. Hutchinson
put in a mind boggling 3:27:26, and yes, I did try to match his pace
for a few minutes when he flew by me. It's just not human. Average
speed of 28.9 mph!
Oh, the Eagles have a reputation - apparently
I am a bit enthusiastic in thanking the marshals on each corner.
Several comments (all positive!) made back at the HQ about how only the
Eagle on the course seemed to do it. Well, you need something to look
forward to - and a shout feels good every so often."
