Our current club champon Chris Baldwin took part in the National 100 today, and produced a fine ride of 3:55:11 to win his age group. See the full results by clicking here.
Just in is this report from the man himself "Quite a weekend! First we were off to
Oxfordshire for the Oakley RR on Saturday where Liz finished 2nd for
the BC East Team and 18th overall. A village fete followed and then we
all headed north towards the Yorkshire dales, arriving about 8 pm.
Quick bite, then bed and a 7:51 start.
A lot of the chatter
about the race was of the was it or was it not a fast course. Weather
was a perfect overcast with very little rain, and just the smallest
breeze. 65 miles on dual carriageway (2 loops of 32ish) and 35 on the
lanes (two loops of 16ish). Those Evening 10s we've been doing paid off
big time as I couldn't wait to get in the lanes and get my butt off the
saddle on a couple of the short sharp climbs. Pacing went well, approx
numbers: 25 - 56:00, 50 - 1:53, 75 - 2:54 and in with 3:55:11.
I
was passed by 3 riders on the day, and quite proud to have been on the
same course with them - Last years winner Kevin Dawson, this year's
winner Michael Hutchinson and Philip Graves, 3rd this year. Hutchinson
put in a mind boggling 3:27:26, and yes, I did try to match his pace
for a few minutes when he flew by me. It's just not human. Average
speed of 28.9 mph!
Oh, the Eagles have a reputation - apparently
I am a bit enthusiastic in thanking the marshals on each corner.
Several comments (all positive!) made back at the HQ about how only the
Eagle on the course seemed to do it. Well, you need something to look
forward to - and a shout feels good every so often."
