We are planning on running an Eagle night at Hog Hill for a series of short events aimed at all levels in the club. We would like to maximise participation, so it needs to be a competitive event for the racing members, but not too intimidating for the non-racing members (young and old) to participate in.
We were thinking something along the lines of a track omnium – with a mix of training, short road races and time trials. Possibly split the club into two teams (like Blues and Golds).
- Warm-up - Group riding and 4-up practice – ride around slowly in a group and then send groups of 4 off the front to try and gain a lap. Experienced riders would need to provide training/guidance for this exercise.
- 1 lap time trial (road bikes only) – this can then be used to divide the groups and sort out handicapping etc. See how fast you can do a kilo?
- Team time trial (3 lap) put the group riding skills to the test – maybe run the event as a pursuit to save time?
- match sprints (1 lap) - seeded based on 1 lap time trial times - slowest 2 riders matched against each other, up to the fastest two riders
- 5 lap scratch race for slower riders, 5 lap scratch race for faster riders
- 10 lap Handicap points race – encourage slower riders to work to get points in the early sprints for their team.
Cost – maybe £4 for adults, but will need to investigate if there are any other costs.
We think we would need to have 20 riders to make the racing fun and competitive, so we may have to ask another club along to boost numbers.
Please let Phil Hersey know whether you like the idea and whether you would like to attend. Any suggestions are very welcome. Also please let other club members who are not on the internet know about this event
