Hi all Alan McArdle here....
Well as the heading suggests the club house and grounds needs your attention!!!!!!!!!
A few weeks back Tony took the bull by the horns and started to rub down the club house and treat it with a coat of fence treatment. Shortly after that Tony’s wife Adelle, my girlfriend Karen and I have joined forces with tony and worked extremely hard over the last few weekends. We have rubbed down the hut and treated the club house with two coats of fence treatment and we agree that the club house is looking like new. I have repaired all the guttering, and now, we have too rub down the window frames and treat them.
Tony has also made a start on cutting back the trees around the edges of the club grounds which has made for some great Bon Fires and with this we have enjoyed family days cooking our jacket pots, sausages, beans in and on the fire!!!!!!!!!
As we all know the club house and grounds from time to time needs our undivided attention otherwise it is going to just rot away. And as much as we love riding our bikes we do need to forgo this occasionally and look after our prized asset THE CLUB HOUSE, and in return that will look after the club and its members for many years to come.
With this in mind I am inviting all the members for as many Sundays as it takes to get the club house and grounds back to its former glory. As the saying goes “Many Hands Make Light Work” and the sooner we knuckle down to it the sooner we can all get back out on our bikes, with the minimum of ongoing maintenance if we keep on top of the jobs to be done when they arise (there is plenty of time over the winter to get your club runs in, in preparation for the 2009 season). Plus with the club house restored we are looking towards getting the members to make more use of it in the coming years.
So what needs to be done?
Well, as I have said Tony, the girls, and I have nearly finished one major task in treating the club house exterior. (We will be looking to giving the inside a make over too when the weather out side is bad. i.e. painting, new roller blinds for the windows, kitchen blitz (which the girls have started), etc. Also redesigning the bedroom in some way as to make more room for changing on race days!).
- The bike shed needs a second coat of treatment, and the front gate needs rubbing down and two coats of treatment.
- The Grounds need a major cut back of trees, and bracken, etc.
- The Nissan Hut needs tidying up and unwanted items, junk etc thrown away!
- The caravan needs to be broken up / dismantled and disposed of.
So as you can see there is still plenty to be done.
I will be at the club house this Sunday 9th and future Sundays (except the weekend of the 22nd /24th Nov as some of us will be at the Ghent 6) from about 9am through till dusk approx 16.30ish 17.00. I will supply milk for tea and coffee making, but I will leave it up to you to make your food arrangements. Don’t forget we have a fully working cooker and microwave!
The club does have some tools, but I would be excellent if you were able to bring saws, cutters, secateurs, an axe (come on guys, one of you must be a mad axe man), also heavy duty gloves, safety glasses/goggles and a boiler suit if you happen to have one,(otherwise old clothing and sturdy boots).
If you have families to consider then you are more than welcome to bring them along, I am sure the young men (boys), would be happy to muck in and Im sure would enjoy themselves!! And quite probably the wives may well be glad of a few hours on their own?
O.K. Weather Wise
Unless it’s absolutely raining cats and dogs then I think it’s imperative that we still attend the working days. If you wake and are not sure if the day is going ahead then please don’t hesitate to call me on my mobile 07956 482 307. So no excuses lads!!!!
So there we have it members, you have been invited to make a contribution to the club house working days!! Please don’t take the attitude that oh that’s alright coz so and so will do it if I don’t!!!
It’s our entire club house so lets all put something back into it!!
Could you have it on your conscience that your club mates are helping are your not??
Kind regards
See you all Sunday
