Clubhouse this Sunday

This Sunday we are going to crack on with our work on the clubhouse.  There is still plenty to do on the outside of the clubhouse such as the guttering and the window frames which need rubbing down ready for painting.

Please feel free to come along and join in the fun.  It is a good day in the fresh air, and we will keep a little bonfire on the go all day to roast some jacket potatoes and sausages.

The weather forecast is not looking that great for Sunday, but play it by ear as in my experience we'd never do anything if wetrusted what the met office tell us.  Hope to see you Sunday  ???

Eagle Hill Climb result

The hill climb was held in wet conditions, but there was still a good crowd of supporters and riders. The results were as follows:

The race was very close this year between Chris, Phil and Simon, but Phil just shaded it. 

DJ Cliff

For those who have been regulars to our club dinner and dances in recent year’s, you will recognise the face, yes it’s DJ Cliff who for many a year was our disc jockey that got us all up dancing at our club dinners. I was out riding with Howard Grace not so long ago when Howard broke the news to me saying that he had been flipping through his local rag and the picture caught his eye. So he cut it out and gave it to me. Since most of us knew him a thought I would let you all know that sadly Cliff passed away at the age of 58 on 11^th July of this year. I can personally say that Cliff was a likable and helpful chap in helping me make our dinners a great success, and although over the last couple of year’s our very own Mick the Chip O’Malley and his partner in crime Pete Trailer have taken over our Dinner DJ Spot, I would like to take a few moments along with you all and spare Cliff a thought or two, and pass on our sincere condolences to his family

Hill CLimb

The Eagle Road Club Hill Climb takes place this Sunday 26^th October 1^st Man off at 11 o’clock, signing on starts at 10.30. Meet in the Owl Public House Car Park Lippets Hill High Beach. There is no need to contact Dave Wright, just turn up and sign on, collect your number and suffer for a shade over 2 mins. There is no charge of entry fee for ERC Members, however there is for Non Members £3. After the event we will be heading into the Owl for some end of season bevies. Everybody is welcome to come along and ride or just be spectators and enjoy the beers afterwards.

NOTE; THAT THE CLOCKS GO BACK AN HOUR SATURDAY NIGHT AS YOU GO TO BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you forget at least you will be an hour early for our event. That said if you are early be warned that Team Economic Energy are having their Hill Climb before us at 10 o’clock, and I am sure that as much as you all like riding your bikes, once up Lippets Hill when your racing is enough, so make sure you ride Eagle!!!!

Cyclo-cross results

Phil Hersey has been taking part in a few cyclo-cross races for a bit of fun and to maintain his fitness over the winter.  On 12 October, he raced in the 5th round of the London Cyclo-cross League at Hainault Forest.  It was a blisteringly hot day and the course was fast and flowing.  Despite a couple of small mishaps, including getting tangled with another other rider at a hairpin on the first lap, Phil finished 29th from a field of around 70-80 riders.  Phil also raced in the 6th round of the London League at Strood, Kent on 19 October.  The race was held on another fast course, which included a sand pit as one of the obstacles.  Phil finished 34th.   

Clubhouse progress report

Just to let everyone know that a few of us hardy souls are renovating the clubhouse this Autumn. Last Sunday we finished our first job of treating all the timber with a wood preservative. It's all one colour now, a rich dark oak.

Next job is to tackle the window frames. They need a fair bit of rubbing down, but with a following wind they should be finished reasonably soon.

If you'd like to get involved let ALan McArdle or Tony Meader know.  We had a nice family day up there last Sunday with a jacket potatoes around the bonfire  washed down with a little lager.

Message from Mark Ambrose

Please note that the Eagle Road Race in 2009 is now on Sunday 24th May.  We have lost our usual date in June due to a Regulation A race taking preference, organised by Team Economic Energy.  There were no free Sundays left part from the 'Wild Wales Weekend', so I had to choose May 24th, doubling up with a National B race in Beccles.  Our race classification will once again be Regional B, I do not foresee a loss of entrants due to the two events.  Note that I have dropped the word 'Summer' from the event name and decided against adding the word 'Spring'!

 

Please make every effort to be available to assist with the race.

Clubhouse this weekend

A few of us are going to take advantage of the good weather this weekend to spend some time at our clubhouse.  There's lots of jobs to do from painting to gardening, and as they say many hands make light work.  A barbeque is also on the menu so if you'd like to join in the fun then come along.

Despite a wet and windy day the Eagle turned out a very good complement of riders- some fast some not so.
