We had four riders in the ECCA 10 on the E2 last Saturday. Phil Hersey continues his fine early form, and Chris Baldwin and Ben Preston picked up a couple of handicap prizes, 2nd and 4th respectively. As a team we also performed with credit picking up 3rd place. Well done.
This Sunday the 30th March we have two riders entered in the Dengie Marshes road race - a 76 mile race for Elite, 123 category riders. Phil Hersey and Chris Baldwin are both down as reserves but should get a ride.
At Dunton In the Vets race we had Dave Farrow and Chris Baldwin taking part. Chris had another solid finish (21st), but Dave Farrow is showing some early signs of form with a 4th place.
The Hot X bun Randonee is our next club event to be held on Easter Monday 24th March 2008. We will ride the usual route roughly 65 miles. The start will leave the Eagle club house at 9am VERY SHARP, with a mid morning stop near New Market for buns, tea and coffee. Then we will continue on to Nikki and Glenn’s at Shudy Camps for lunch then head back to the club house for tea and biscuits.
We had a very cold, wet and windy start for the first Eagle RC club event of 2008. So much so, that with the road between Elsenham and Thaxted flooded, a shortened course had to be found. We ended up using two circuits of the smaller route for a test of some 22 miles.
Phil Hersey won the event in a time of 56:14. But he had some close competition will both Chris BAldwin and Garth Evans geting within a minute of our club champion.
Congratulations to all the riders for braving the elements and a special thank you to all the marshals for making the event happen.
DNS - Ian Eastwood, Dave Wright, Ben Preston, and Damien Foy. But on a lighter note Damien did "text in" with his apologies and said that "Ben was in bed too."
On the 15th March, the Saturday before the hilly 25, we had four Eagles in the ECCA 10 on the E91. Congratulations to all four placing in the top 13 out of 43 riders and notably to Phil picking up some hardware for overall shared 3rd place.
